Bug#613560: vim-gtk also hangs

The difference with vim-gtk is that it opens a window which is empty
apart from a non-functioning menu-bar and a small scroll-bar in the
top-left corner. It has a plain grey background and it's sized
according to the geometry argument or the size of the calling terminal.

The window can be closed by using a window-manager's "Force Quit"
feature but this does not kill the gvim process. Unlike vim-gnome it
doesn't tie up a CPU core.
