Hi,
I spend some time figuring out how the build process for the modules is
supposed to work, which patch is really needed and whether there might
be a better way for one or the other.
However, I've stumbled about a few questions that some of you might be
able to answer:
1) Why do we have patch 02-host-module.dpatch? It only makes sure that
KERN_DIR is set to $(KDIR). But where is KDIR set? I've run some tests
without it and they seem to yield exactly the same results.
This patch was done by Torsten, so he might know. :-)
2) Are linux-modules-extra-2.6 supposed to be able to build on a
different kernel? That means am I supposed to be able to build l-m-e-2.6
for kernel 2.6.22 while running 2.6.23? I've found several occasions of
"uname -r" in some module's Makefiles that won't work in this case.
However, most of the stuff set there is not usied during l-m-e build
anyway. But virtualbox-ose does have a sanity check that fails in this
case.
Daniel, I take it you know that. :-)
I'd like to release 1.5.4-dfsg-1 as soon as the build process is fixed
and 1.5.2-dfsg2-7 has moved to testing. Is this okay with you guys?
Michael
