I just found it:

Virtualbox-ose seems to look for kernel headers under /usr/src/linux and
/lib/modules/*. AFAIK m-a creates a /usr/src/linux link. Does l-m-e
do the same?

BTW the information was out there, putting us on CC doesn't sound like
more work at all.
