that's plain wrong.
the generated package does not need in any way those prebuild
kernel-???-packages.
module-assistant works perfectly well in generating the package without
those prebuild kernel-???-packages.
the only thing that does not work is the installation because of the
unecessary dependencies.
there has never been a satisfying rationale for most of those kernel-???
depencies (i never encountered a single one that did _not_ work after
removing the dependencies) and i am sick and tired of those statements of
yours below because the neither are true nor helping.
