I guessed as much, I mainly mentioned it since it's the only time the qt gui
actually shows the correct screen. So virtualbox is running correctly (also
with the gtk gui), the gui just can't display the screen.

That sounds like a different problem, I _never_ had an uncorrupted display with
the qt gui, what is shown only sometimes vaguely resembles that what should be
shown, and only in some parts of the screen.
