Those grey lines that show up when the machine is paused have been around for
a while. I think it's normal behavior. I've never really messed with
vboxgtk, so I can't speak for it.
Also, I've noticed that when working on the console in the virtualbox-qt
frontend, when the screen blanks, the characters that are bold (or intense)
remain on the screen, while the rest of the screen goes blank. While that
might be a minor bug, that's the way all of the consoles have behaved since
I've been using virtualbox. I doubt that this is what you are are talking
about when referring to random crap, but I wanted to let you know anyway.
