Hi Jens,

This is very similar to something I had implemented before, but I felt
like parsing system.reg may not be entirely reliable, and file often
has security issues, so I dropped both of those a while ago.

I suppose it's worth reevaluating those decisions given the complaints
about current behavior.

I'm not really concerned about winetricks.  They can adapt to whatever
approach we choose.
