Ack.

My only concern is he may want rel2abs_path() used on the pidfile optarg.

I have indeed noticed he replies in large "batches".

I may add some extra useful comments to /etc/default/hostapd such as 
useful options to use in DAEMON_OPTIONS and an example 
multi-configuration DAEMON_CONF line.

We can do one of two things:

   1. wait for pidfile patch review, upload
   2. revert pidfile related stuff (it is far less important than, and
      does not impact on the other changes at all) and upload, wait for
      pidfile stuff to be merged into 0.5.5 (if accepted)

IMHO, I don't think we should let that hold things up. If that's the 
_only_ hold back, I'd prefer to revert all pidfile related stuff, and 
wait for implementation upstream => option #2.
