This is no defect, rather a  wishlist item, IMHO.

Please provide a distinct bug report for that issue.

What are they for? Why do I need to apply them? Have they been sent to 
Jouni?

Are you positive these bugs are for the 0.5 series of wpa_supplicant? If 
so, i would rather allow upstream to take care of them during their 
normal development process, unless they are _absolutely_ critical.
