I ran into the exact same messages of "CTRL-EVENT-DISCONNECTED -
Disconnect event - remove keys"

Turns out I had to run wpa_supplicant from within the build directory.
It wouldn't work where I had copied it to in the system. There may be a
reason for that but I wouldn't know what it is.
