What assurances have upstream made about future versioning?

In a way, although it's ugly, I'd prefer say
0.1.999-really-0.2.0alpha-blah etc if they are going to subsequently
realease 0.2.0.

I do personally as we've caught and reported errors based on it before.
I can see the rationale for turning it off and if we hit silly errors we
might do so - obviously it's your call whether you turn it off for
Ubuntu or not.
