Confirmed, I was being lucky.

I only had icewesel, gnome-system-log and some terminals. All them were
restored.

I then opened gimp and inkscape, but they are neither restored nor appear in
the list of programs part of the session.

Surprisingly, gnome-system-log does not appear in that list, but gets
restored.
