while this is an old bug, it is still present, and one reason I use xdm/xfce4
with a larger LDAP based installation.

PS: The other reason being lightdm tries to load $HOME/.face{,.icon} for all
found users which, in a autofs $HOME setup, leads to all user homes being
mounted.
