The Products site for ZODB says:
"Zope 2.8 and current Zope 3 development are using ZODB 3.4. ZODB 3.4
cannot be used with Zope 2.7 or earlier."

Yes, I know, zope2.7 will be gone some day, but you cannot guarantee that
future ZODB versions will work with zope2.8...
