Here's the POD version of the French translation of the po4a.1 manpage.
You can look for "suivant.:" in this file and in the generated file.
When "S<suivant :>" generates "suivant\xA0:", this lead an invalid UTF-8
file, which will be considered as a latin-1 file by programs like vim or man.
