I had a look, and I have three such files, System.map-2.4.27-3-686,
System.map-2.4.27-3-686-smp and System.map-2.6.15-1-686-smp. The
latter is used. Their times as reported by stat are
File: «/boot/System.map-2.4.27-3-686»

My uptime is 9 days, 16 hours, so the 2006-09-28 access time look
quite correct. I'm not sure what happened 2006-08-16 nor 2006-08-09.
Do you know what during the boot that is using the System.map file?
Is the kernel reading it, or perhaps klogd or similar?
Friendly,
