I think it should be done.  All the patches are well tested in Ubuntu --
it just takes a tiny change to the gcc packaging (the patches are in the
package, they just aren't applied when building for Debian).  I've chased
any issues that they uncovered through the BTS and most maintainers were
quick to fix problems.  Some notes from the Ubuntu roll-out:
