Backwards from what?  When merging a branch (as in revision control) one
doesn't usually think of this as being "backwards".  It's simply merging
code from one place to another.

The backwards/opposite meaning of ubuntu (the word itself) is even less
fitting, and "utnubu" seems awfully awkward to pronounce.

I think that the text you quoted above explains adequately; is there
something specific that I could clarify for you?

Consider how you might have felt differently about Ubuntu if it had instead
been named something like "Naibed".
