I read about it.

Home banking (other terms are Tele-Banking, Internet-Banking) is very 
usual in Germany and Austria.
You can get your bank account statements including the attached 
documents via internet in differents forms - html, xml, csv, edifact. At 
a small NGO (http://www.vibe.at/index_en.html), where I am member of the 
board and responsible for financials, we use this interface 
semi-automatically. This allows a paperless ledger. A guy of us has 
written a simple ledger in PHP + PostgreSQL, Web-Interface, where you 
can click the reference of a transaction, and you can see the original 
document.
