A laptop would be "lightweight" for me if I did not have too carry
around my gigantic email archive but rather leave it at home on external
hard drives.

I could also imagine, in addition, that OfflineIMAP on my laptop would
take a lot of load from my mail client (I currently use icedove).

It seems that mailpile is doing something similar since it is running
locally (like OfflineIMAP). You just happen to talk to it with a browser
[1] and not with a dedicated mail client.

So, hypothetically (i.e. if mailpile was already packaged for debian),
maybe the browser choice for the fluxbox blend would be a choice
involving of which kind of browser bugs mailpile would unearth (and the
other way around, of course).
