Hi
My Eee 701 takes:
* 8 seconds to GRUB
* 24 more seconds to GDM login prompt.
Apart from removing unnecessary services I got most gain by enabling
concurrent boot scripts and compiling a custom kernel without initrd.
I also disabled network device hotplug support because the script takes
several seconds on boot waiting for loopback device to come up.
Bootchart and some details:

Basically it's the kernel initialization and udev module loading that's
holding things back (I'm using 2.6.23). Those long modprobes are ACPI
and bluetooth modules. OTOH I'm a bit skeptical of the bootchartd
results because when I replace modprobe with a wrapper that logs
modprobe's runtime, it reports much shorter runtimes than bootchartd.
Best regards
Tomaž
