I had all kinds of grief with KMS and 2.6.30.  It's a bit better with
2.6.31, but still the occasional hard lock.  Can't remember what drove
me to KMS ... I think I was seeing problems in the new Xorg that
disappeared when I switched to  KMS.  Wish I had taken notes at the
time. :P
