The question is whether we really need a tag as technical as this
systray-host tag.
There are tons of apps that work in the Gnome systray, and I'd assume
they also work in the KDE systray...
I think x11::systray is appropriate (compare it to x11:applet!)
Actually it is very close to what we call x11::applet currently.
And yes, there are tons of applications where it's applicable.

Pretty much any app that goes to your systray and is not added via
Gnomes "add applet" dialog.
