Well, you need at least a wrapper like sudo if you want to do it as a user.

Also, and as was said in the beginning of the thread, we are dealing with two
distinct package managers that do not know about each other. Might be best to
keep them seperate.

That said, once we have something working on Debian, there is no reason why
you can't pull that "inside" R with some .R code.

You probably need to ask him. I presume he has a script, just like Detlef has
for SuSE (which is based on Albrecht's work, and Albrecht himself then
created a first Debianising script upon which I built and which is the basis
of what is on alioth -- but I digress).

So why don't you try your luck with the alioth script once you are registered
on alioth and we made you a member of the team. Use this list for questions
as e.g. Egon and I could try to help.
