I wonder whether we shouldn't have a consistent policy regarding to
user-contributed drop-ins or upgrades.

In my view, jed-common should ship with the upstream versions of SLang
files (modes) and updates or replacements ship in either jed-extra or
another optional extension.

Alternatively, some of the modes now in jed-extra (e.g. an updated
cua.sl) could/should be included in the basic jed-common package.
