It should happen when using slurpd backend. But debian packages use
syncrepl backend.

Probably not.

syncrepl, you should have "overlay syncrepl" on the master and
"syncrepl" on the slaves

which packages are you using?

I haven't tested slave setup (as I don't use kolab_bootstrap at work).
So your test can help me.
