Menu.lst shows me that my problem might be a symptom of vesafb-tng
getting the wrong vga parameter. Though I think its not too likely.
Vesafb-tng takes the parameter in a different format than normal
vesafb included in kernel. All my earlier installed kernels were
vesafb-tng patched. Now I have installed a new version of Debian kernel.

Hmm this is in the right format for vesafb-tng. Because I started this
time from the other installed Debians grub which has an old command
line not updated with update-grub in the other system. But I'm quite
sure that I tried with this grub too when the problem surfaced.

I'll try to install it again and use the debian kernel with the
correct boot parameters for vga.
