I don't *know* anything for sure at this point, but I suspect the
problem might be caused by the switch-to-verbose-on-read-from-tty0
feature of fbsplash. You can try commenting out the fbsplash code in
drivers/char/n_tty.c in the kernel (commenting out the
'fbsplash_verbose()' line should be enough) to see if this changes
anything.
